Hello! I’m Jane.

Before I became a product designer, I spent 10 years as a teacher.

As a math teacher, I enjoyed collaborating with fellow teachers to identify patterns in student solution methods and mistakes. This helped us improve how we presented the lessons and assessed learning each year. No two years were alike.

I aimed to create a classroom community where students felt safe to make mistakes and ask questions. Think Mister Rogers. I spoke at local and national teaching conventions on methods for making the math classroom more equitable for all students.

Design entered my scene 6.5 years ago.

I volunteered to teach the inaugural yearbook class in what was essentially a startup high school. I learned to coach students in layout design, interviewing, time management, and how to give constructive feedback without making people cry.

Why product design?

Product design at its core is about helping people. My experience as a math teacher taught me to be empathetic to people’s unique ways of thinking. My experience as a yearbook adviser taught me the value of purposeful decision-making in design. I’m interested in learning more about how to make the web a more inclusive and accessible space.

Moving forward, I want to collaborate with other designers to create intuitive digital experiences that give all users confidence and delight.

Where can you find me when I’m not working?
